Mental Health Awareness Month: Moving with Awareness

Mental Health Awareness Month is observed annually in May. Earlier this month, LnP lawyers took part in an internal firm initiative to foster understanding and support for mental health needs in and outside the workplace. The team was provided with tips for physically “moving with awareness”, which included:

  • Getting to know the relationship between movement and their bodies,
  • Creating new movement habits like changing posture, not sitting for long periods of time or walking, and
  • Listening to their bodies with intention and attention.

Our lawyers then anonymously completed a survey, providing feedback on the moving with awareness initiative. The survey provided insights for understanding prevalence and trends within the firm, monitoring the team’s attitude towards mental health, raising awareness, and promoting a culture of acceptance and resilience.

The majority found that participating in the initiative made a difference. They observed that during moments when they were least motivated to listen to their bodies consciously, they experienced the most beneficial outcomes. Lawyers also recognised that making minor adjustments to their movement significantly impacts their energy levels and productivity. The team’s input was incredibly valuable and will help with better understanding mental health needs of employees.
