With extensive litigation experience, Akira has acted in multiple matters during her time at Legal Aid South Africa, including negotiation, plea bargaining, client consultation, and conducting court proceedings.

An accomplished student and consistent Dean’s List honouree, Akira holds an LLB degree obtained from the University of Kwazulu Natal. She also completed a course in Conveyancing through the Law Society of South Africa’s Legal Education and Development division. Akira honed her extensive legal drafting skills pertaining to the Law of Contract, Magistrates Court Practice, and High Court Practice at the School for Legal Practice.

She is an admitted legal practitioner of the High Court of South Africa.

Daniellé is an Associate in the firm’s Construction Team.

Focusing on construction and engineering disputes, she has been involved in various adjudication, arbitration, and high court litigation matters under the JBCC, GCC, NEC, and FIDIC suites of agreements.

Daniellé has acted in various applications for the enforcement of on-demand payment guarantees as well as various applications for payment of payment certificates.

Her construction and engineering law experience includes advising clients on the structure, preparation, and amendments of project-specific general and specific conditions of standard form construction contracts.

Furthermore, she advises clients on Building Information Modelling (BIM) implementation, including preparation of Information Protocols and BIM Execution Plans pre and post tender, as well as identifying and preparing information flow and approval processes, ensuring compliance with SANS 19650 and the applicable construction contracts.

Daniellé holds an LLB degree obtained from the University of Pretoria and was admitted as an attorney during 2021.

Dee-dee is a Senior Associate and Head of the firm’s Dispute Resolution Practice.

Skilled in analysing intricate legal issues, she offers strategic advice and direction to clients in commercial disputes across a range of industries. She has acted in complex contractual, corporate, and commercial matters before the High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, and Constitutional Court, including urgent proceedings.

Dee-dee also advises on alternative dispute resolution, guiding clients through both domestic and international arbitration processes.

Meticulous and detail-oriented, she provides comprehensive advice and representation concerning public procurement, government contracting, administrative law matters, ensuring regulatory compliance and successful resolution of disputes involving public entities.

Dee-dee holds LLB, BCom (Law) and BCom (Hons) (Business Management) degrees from the University of Pretoria, a Certificate in Practical Labour Law from the University of Cape Town, and is in the process of completing her LLM in intellectual property law.

Humaira is an Associate in the firm’s Construction Team.

She specialises in energy, natural resources, and infrastructure law, with over 2 years’ experience in procurement and construction within the mining sector. She also focusses on dispute resolution methods such as adjudication and arbitration in construction, due diligence, project development, and regulatory compliance in the energy sector.

Humaira has a profound passion for construction law that resonates through her work. Continual learning drives her, and she takes pride in consistently delivering exceptional service to clients. She conducts her matters with utmost care and consistently prioritise the client’s best interests.

She assists clients with drafting, reviewing and partaking in the negotiation of terms for mining projects. She also assists with dispute resolution such as local and international arbitrations and adjudications in the construction setting, due diligence reports and legal opinions for project sites, and contract management and regulatory compliance under renewable energy programmes.

Humaira obtained her LLB degree and LLM in International Commercial Law degree from the University of Johannesburg. She is admitted as an attorney of the High Court.

Joshua is an Associate in the firm’s Construction team.

With extensive experience in contract law and civil litigation, Joshua has been involved in various medical negligence, malpractice, family law, unlawful arrest, and Road Accident Fund matters in both the District and Regional Courts.

He has also acted in multiple CCMA matters, including mediation and internal dispute resolution proceedings. A collaborative legal practitioner and critical thinker, Joshua acted as student representative for Legal Aid South Africa and participated in the Students for Law and Social Justice organisation during his undergraduate studies. 

Joshua holds an LLB degree obtained from the University of Kwazulu Natal, and currently working towards his LLM degree due for completion in 2026. He recently completed a course in Engineering & Construction Contracts through the Law Society of South Africa’s Legal Education and Development division. 

Khanyisa Hlabathi

Khanyisa is a Legal Intern.

Having worked during her studies at various large law firms as a vacation student and another year as a legal intern, Khanyisa was exposed to various practice areas in the fast-paced environment of these firms.

She has acquired fundamental legal competencies. These include legal research, drafting legal opinions, and negotiation and presentation skills.

A hard worker, she has a mature and responsible approach to any task with strong research and critical thinking skills. She’s a team player but also very capable of working independently.

Khanyisa holds an LLB degree from the University of South Africa and a BA in Political Science from the University of Johannesburg.

Mbalenhle Simelane

Senior Associate
Mbalenhle is a Senior Associate in the firm’s Construction Team.

Mbalenhle specialises in front-end advisory and dispute resolution in the energy and infrastructure sectors. She has wide-ranging experience in mediation, adjudication, arbitration (both domestic and international) and commercial litigation. She also advises on the drafting and negotiating of bespoke and standard construction and engineering contracts such as the FIDIC, GCC, JBCC and NEC.

She has 3 years’ legal experience in construction and engineering, where her clients include consultants, contractors, subcontractors and employers. Her background includes extensive experience in civil litigation, in both the higher and lower courts of South Africa. She has also appeared in alternative dispute resolution in forums such as the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration, the Rental Housing Tribunal and the Motor Industry Bargaining Council.

With a great deal of initiative, Mbalenhle is dependable, solution driven and commercially inclined. With her keen eye for detail, she has acquired vast knowledge of private and public aspects of contractual and commercial law and uses this to provide practical and meaningful solutions to legal issues.

Mbalenhle advises on project development, structuring, management, and regulatory compliance as well as public procurement and procedures. She assists clients with drafting and negotiating contracts for energy companies, related to energy production, supply and distribution as well as conducting due diligence on projects to identify and mitigate legal risks, both regulatory and contractual.

Mbalenhle holds BCom (Law), LLB and LLM in International Commercial Law degrees which she obtained from the University of Johannesburg. She holds a Certificate in Construction Adjudication from the University of Pretoria’s Enterprises.

Mbalenhle is an admitted attorney of the High Court.

Msizi is an Associate in the firm’s Construction Team. He has represented various SOEs in high-value construction and engineering disputes.

His experience includes acting in adjudications and arbitrations proceedings in respect of FIDIC and NEC contracts.

Msizi holds an LLB degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, a BSS from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and an Engineering & Construction Certificate from L.E.A.D. He was admitted as an attorney in May 2025.

Nadia is a Director and Team Leader of the firm’s Compliance Team.

Nadia is responsible for both internal and external risk management and compliance.

She has legal advisory experience in both commercial and dispute mandates with a specific emphasis on regulatory compliance.  She has vast experience in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing a wide variety of compliance and regulatory agreements such as consultancy agreements, service level agreements, lease agreements, data protection policies and employment agreements and policies.

Nadia recently designed and drafted a compliance monitoring programme to facilitate and promote the compliance of companies with South African laws and regulations such as the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, 2001 and the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013. She has also designed and drafted a compliance monitoring programme to facilitate and promote the compliance of companies with Mauritian anti-money laundering laws and regulations such as the Financial Intelligence Anti Money Laundering Act, 2002; Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002; and the Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2002.

Nadia provides clients with comprehensive advice, guidance and support on a range of regulatory concerns, and assists them to meet their compliance obligations.

Nadia obtained her LLB degree from the University of KwaZulu Natal and is admitted as an attorney of the High Court.

Nikita is the firm’s Chief Executive.

Nikita is a multiple award-winning construction lawyer with niche experience in the energy, natural resources, and infrastructure sectors. She works with many local and international companies on massive energy, natural resources and infrastructure related matters. She offers concept to closure legal support to her clients, respecting their time and budget.

Nikita obtained her LLB degree from the University of Witwatersrand and is an admitted attorney of the High Court.

Nikita is part of the team at LnP who have been recognised by the African Legal Awards 2019 as the African Law Firm of the Year (Small Practice) and Energy & Natural Resources team of the Year.

She is widely recognised as a leading construction lawyer by all the major international rating agencies including Chambers and Partners, Who’s Who’s Legal, Legal 500, IFLR1000, and others. She is also regularly ranked by international ratings agencies as a premier construction attorney in South Africa and also lectures at the Nelson Mandela Institute (through the University of Witwatersrand law school) and was a fellow of the IACL from 2022-2024.

Ricardo is a Director and Team Leader in the firm’s Construction Team.

As the lead attorney for the mandates, his notable experience includes acting for both contractors and employers under the FIDIC Suite of Contracts.

Ricardo has an exceptional understanding of the risks associated with construction projects in Africa, which enables him to identify, allocate and minimise these risks. While he expertly manages dispute avoidance, when it comes to construction projects, disputes are not always avoidable. In these instances, his skills are supplemented by extensive mediation, adjudication and arbitration experience, as well as a thorough knowledge of litigious processes and procedures used in Africa.

He has advised and acted for clients under the FIDIC suite of contracts and has a wide range of contracting, regulatory and procurement advisory expertise.

Ricardo obtained a Bachelor of Social Science and his LLB degrees from the University of Rhodes.

Ricardo is an admitted attorney of the High Court and is a member of the South African Construction Forum. He has lectured and conducted client-stating sessions on the FIDIC 1999 and 2017 Contracts. He has also lectured for the Wits 2021 and 2022 Construction and Engineering Law Courses open to Engineering and Quantity Surveying Candidates. Ricardo’s work under the FIDIC Suite of Contracts in the Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Sectors has been recognised by the African Legal Awards. Ricardo has also been ranked by Chambers Global in 2024 under the category Up and Coming: Construction.

Riona Kalua is a Director and Team Leader in the firm’s Labour and Employment Team.

Riona has litigation experience in all aspects of labour law in the CCMA, various bargaining councils, and the Labour Courts. Riona also specialises in pension fund law, contract and commercial law. Her general commercial and civil work includes drafting and advising on different types of agreements (employment contracts, confidentiality agreements and deeds of trust), memoranda and articles of association and furnishing opinions to clients on these and many aspects of civil work such as defamation and various claims for damages and/or compensation.

Riona had advised a wide range of clients, including COSATU, COSATU affiliated trade unions, non-governmental organisations, private entities, trusts, corporations, government departments at national, provincial and local level, statutory bodies, local and international non-profit organisations.

As a labour lawyer, Riona has accepted her responsibility to assist ensuring access to justice for all members of society, particularly those who cannot afford to pay for legal services. She has been involved in providing advice at the Pro Bono Clinic at the Labour Court since its inception and has also assisted clients on a pro bono basis.

Riona has a LLB degree and a LLM degree in Business Law, which she obtained from the University of KwaZulu Natal.

Riona is admitted as an attorney of the High Court. She was awarded a prize by SASLAW (South African Society for Labour Law) for achieving the highest mark in the Advanced Labour Law course. She has previously served on the Gauteng Chapter of SASLAW and annually attends the SASLAW conference.

Tasmia Alli is an Associate in the firm’s Construction team.

She is an admitted attorney with a specialised focus in construction, engineering, and renewable energy law. She has been involved in matters pertaining to transactional advisory and dispute resolution across the energy and infrastructure sectors, encompassing oil and gas, power generation, and renewable energy projects.

Tasmia also brings experience in employment and labour law, having advised on arbitrations, disciplinary enquiries, trial preparation, and review applications.

She holds an LLB degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
